Casa di Culture, a brand for the modern nomad, was started in 2007 by three African-American sisters. Their product line consists of culturally inspired designs and travel friendly apparel such as organic cotton t-shirts silk-screened with PVC-free inks, reversible scarves using fabrics from various countries, and batik button earrings.
Raised in the cosmopolitan city of Washington, D.C., the sisters were exposed to a diversity of art, music, cultures and customs from an early age. This exposure created a strong interest in international travel, which led to expat lifestyles, learning new languages and extensive expeditions throughout the world. Subsequently, Casa di Culture was born in order to create items for citizens of the world that reflected their new nomadic identity and lifestyle.
Each Casa di Culture item is conceptualized and designed in-house; everything from the hand-made soaps and accessories to the graphics for the t-shirts. Occasionally, the company also collaborates with other artisans and entrepreneurs to create original, limited pieces for Casa di Culture.
By creating and running Casa di Culture, the sisters aim to promote cultural exchange and to connect with other worldly citizens. They have already caught the attention of international fashion bloggers, and were highlighted in Ebony magazine.
The sisters currently live in Washington, DC, Switzerland and France, respectively.
