Hundreds of families in Prince George’s County and the surrounding areas will have Thanksgiving dinner thanks to theArk of Safety Christian Churchand Bishop C. Anthony Muse.

The Ark of Safety Christian Church was able to provide over 300 Thanksgiving Basketsto the community that included Woodside Village Senior Apartments, Trinity Terrace Senior Apartments, Fort Washington Adventist Senior Apartments, Fort Washington Manor Senior Apartments, Hillcrest Heights Elementary and Mission of Love Charities.

RAND Study Analyzes 'Cancer Death Rate Gap' in DC PDF Print E-mail

A new report commissioned by the DC Cancer Consortium shows the cancer death rate among blacks in DC exceeds the national rate.  The report finds that African Americans develop cancer at the same rate as blacks across the country, but they are more likely to die from cancer in the District of Columbia.

The UNCF Empower Me Tour Presented by Wells Fargo, a free, traveling college-and career-readiness road show, will kick off its 2012-2013 Tour on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at George Washington University at the Marvin Student Center in Washington, DC. Celebrating its fifth anniversary, the UNCF Empower Me Tour was created in partnership with Wells Fargo to prepare students to go to and through college and inspire them to take control of their future by using education as the foundation for achieving their goals and dreams. The 2012-2013 UNCF Empower Me Tour Presented by Wells Fargo will be hosted by Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter Ledisi, actor Boris Kodjoe, actor and comedian Kim Coles, actor Lamman Rucker and activist Jeff Johnson. Joining this year’s celebrity hosts in Washington, DC will be Paul Quinn College President Michael J. Sorrell, music executive Amir Windom, celebrity Chef DAS, Co-Founders of ALFA Worldwide Patrick Kodjoe and James Brown and others. Participating middle school, high school and college students will experience a day of interactive exhibits, college and career workshops and engaging panel discussions with special guests.

The 25th annual Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition and "Women, Music and Diplomacy" All-Star Gala Concert came to a close with roaring applause and cheers as Tipper Gore joined first place winner Jamison Ross on drums in a rousing finale featuring Thelonious Monk's classic composition "In Walked Bud."
