The Gospel Community in Washington, D.C. is well aware of the talents of Gospel crooner Rob Mercer. Known for his laid-back, but worshipful vibe, Mercer has been part of a number of compilations including his own and the 2011 DC United: Together In Unity project. Having shared the stage with artists such as Yolanda Adams, Daryl Coley, Richard Smallwood and The Winans, Mercer has been honing his craft since the age of four. Now the songwriter and singer is breaking out nationally with his debut record entitled, The Photo Album, and it gives contemporary gospel music fans just what they’re looking for: a fresh sound in gospel music.

Program Aims to Increase the Number of Women Running for Office
Washington, D.C- Earlier this year on January 21th, 2012 Howard University became the first Historically Black College or University selected as one of the 30 campus sites across the United States and Jamaica to host the American Association of Undergraduate Women’s (AAUW) Elect Her–Campus Women Win in 2012 Initiative. Elect Her is the only nationwide program that trains collegiate women on how to run for and win student government elections.

Celebrity make-up artist Kym Lee, was honored last night at beauty, fashion, and entertainment’s most anticipated event, The BlackOut Awards, presented by Yancey Edwards. This third annual night of prestige was hosted by 98.7 KISS FM’s, Toya Beasley last night Sunday, September 23, 2012. Located at One Sopac Way, South Orange, NJ, The Sopac Performing Arts Center began the show at 8:00pm.

The Washington, D. C. based NEWorks Productions has informed the D. C. Performing Arts Examiner that Nolan E. Williams, Jr. as been tapped by the U. S. State Department to lead a cultural envoy to Cairo,Egypt. He will lead an impressive ensemble of nine singers on the tour, which includes 2012 Helen Hayes Award winner Nova Tate,Washington National Opera soprano Samantha McElhaney and gospel recording artist Vanessa Williams. Completing the ensemble are Dennis Sawyers, Victoria Purcell, Byron Nichols, Danton Whitley, Iyona Blake, and Joy Swafford.
