LLC (Fort Washington Potomac River Tours to host Yacht Cruise to raise funds for The Empowerment Experiment (EE) Movement

The
Fort Washington Potomac River Tours, a company based in Fort
Washington, Maryland, and over 40 business owners and politicians
in the Washington, DC Metro area will jointly sponsor a fundraising
event as part of the 2010 Congressional Black Caucus (CBC)
Legislative Conference. The cruise will raise money to support
The Empowerment Experiment (EE). The EE movement began in January
2009 and was started to challenge underserved Communities to
support quality Black-owned businesses, Black professional
services and products made by Black entrepreneurs. The money
raised from the cruise event will help The Empowerment Experiment
extend its reach nationwide, informing and motivating people

The
Binge Eating Disorder Association (BEDA) announced today that
Chenese Lewis has become an official ambassador, joining the
effort to increase awareness around unrealistic “body-perfect” ideals,
binge eating disorder and several associated conditions, including
compulsive and emotional eating, and food addiction. Binge
eating disorder is the most common eating disorder in the United
States affecting 3.5% of females and 2% of males. One in every
35 U.S. adults has the disorder and its prevalence amongst
those seeking weight loss treatments, including bariatric surgery....

The Smithsonian's
Anacostia Community Museum presents the groundbreaking exhibition "Word,
Shout, Song: Lorenzo Dow Turner Connecting Communities through
Language" on view from Aug. 9 through March 27, 2011.
Curated by Alcione Amos and the first exhibition based almost
entirely on one of the museum's special collections, "Word,
Shout, Song" looks at the life, research and scholarship
of Lorenzo Dow Turner, perhaps the first African American linguist.
It also focuses on how his discoveries linked communities in
Africa to the New World through language...
